Fire TV (2nd Generation)

This device is the small square flat box with phyiscal ethernet port and micro sd card port at the back. Please note these instructions might be out of date.

Installing Kodi

  • Download the "Downloader" app
  • Go to kodi.tv
  • Download the 64-bit (arm v8) package for Android
  • Install

Setting up Kodi

  • Go to Settings > Add-ons > Install from zip file > NFS > 192.x.100 > tv
  • Select the skin.arctic.zephyr.2-0.9.60-alpha1.zip file
  • Note that this method of installation will only work through NFS that is shared from synology
  • After the addon is installed (takes several minutes), switch to the skin

Selecting a skin in Kodi

  • Go to Settings > Interface > Skin > Skin and select "Arctic Zephyr 2"
  • Theme > Square
  • Color > Dark with dark dialogs

Setting up the libraries

  • Go to home > Videos > Files
  • Add video sources from here

Advanced skin settings

  • Go to Settings > Skin Settings
  • Home layout > Horizontal menu | Multiple widgets
  • Menu Style > Icons
  • Customize home menu
  • Just have Movies, TV shows, Power
  • Create "Power"
    • Label > "Power"
    • Select icon > "Power icon"
    • Action > Common > "Power"

Disable bunch of useless stuff

  • Go to Settings > Services
  • General > Announce services to other systems (disable)
  • Control > Allow remote control from applications on this system (disable)
  • Go to Settings > Media & Library > "Show parent folder items" (disable)
  • Go to Settings > System
  • Logging > Enable event logging (disable)

Keymap editor

Back button on FireTV remote for stopping the video

  • Go to Add-ons > Search > "keymap"
  • Install Script - Keymap Editor (Install the dependencies)
  • Run the "Add on"
  • Edit > Full Screen Video
    • Playback > Stop > Edit Key > "Press Back Button" on the remote
    • Audio > Volume Up > Edit Key > "Press Up Button" on the remote
    • Audio > Volume Down > Edit Key > "Press Down Button" on the remote
  • Edit > Home > Playback > Stop > Edit Key > "Press Back Button" on the remote
  • Save

Backup restore skin settings

Backup

  • Go to settings > Skin > Backup/Restore > Backup Skin Settings

Save to NFS server

  • Go to Settings > File Manager > Profile directory > addon_data > script.skin.helper.skinbackup
  • On the other side select tv (a visible nfs folder)
  • Click on the "menu" button on remote and click "copy"
  • All done!
