JVC iArt AV-14F704 CRT RGB mod
This tutorial covers the RGB mod for JVC AV-14F704. Please follow the Toshiba 14AF43 RGB mod for any missing details. This JVC iArt series and Toshiba AF series internals (Orion tube/main board) are more or less the same.
You can die doing this! So read carefully! CRT TV is not a toy. Do not open a CRT TV. If you don't have any prior knowledge about handling high voltage devices, this guide is not for you. CRT TV contains high enough voltage (20,000+ V) and current to be deadly, even when it is turned off.
Plan of attack
Sometimes it is nice to know the theory behind the mod. I have put this on a separate page. This shows how the various resistor values are calculated.
Note: the service manual for this TV doesn't seem to have the schematics.
I couldn't find the schematics for this TV. I just followed the Toshiba 14" schematics as they were more or less the same.
If you are building your own circuit, this diagram should help
Calculating the RGB external resistor value
Love it when we can put theories to use! Formula from our theory page!
External resistor value = 0.7 x (4700 + 75) - (75 x 5) / (5 - 0.7) = (3342 - 375) / 4.3 = 690 ohm
This is very close to the grounding resistor value we removed. This should be the case for this particular type of CRTs.
Performing the mod
Please follow the Toshiba 14AF43 RGB mod
