Samsung TXE1970
Samsung TXE1970 CRT RGB mod
This tutorial covers the RGB mod for the Samsung TXE1970 CRT TV.
CRT safety
Caution
You can die doing this! So read carefully! CRT TV is not a toy. Do not open a CRT TV. If you don't have any prior knowledge about handling high voltage devices, this guide is not for you. CRT TV contains high enough voltage (20,000+ V) and current to be deadly, even when it is turned off.

Theory
Sometimes it is nice to know the theory behind the mod. I have put this on a separate page. This shows how the various resistor values are calculated.
Specs
Samsung TXE1970
- Manufactured: 1996 September, Mexico
- NTSC, 60 Hz, 80 Watts
- Tube: Samsung A48KRD82X
Prototyping the mod
Simplified circuit diagram that was created to perform this mod. Check the RGB theory page to find more details around how to calculate the resistor values.
RGB mod instructions
Carefully remove the main chassis and get it ready for the mod.
STEP 1: Remove the following components
Remove the following components. RGB resistors to the ground. Measure twice and mark before you remove.
- R204 (1.2 kΩ)
- R205 (1.2 kΩ)
- R206 (1.2 kΩ)
STEP 2: Connect RGBs, Blanking and Audio
RGB and Blanking
Audio, Ground and Sync Wires
STEP 3: Cut trace to disable AV detection
This disables the detection whether AV is plugged in or not
STEP 4: Build your mux board
Below mod uses the RGB mux board. This is optional, but will make your mod easier and stable. You can also create the circuit presented in the schematics above without the board. Please also checkout the precalculated resistor values.
TV Model | TXE1970 |
---|---|
RGB/OSD stock resistors | 7.5kΩ |
Audio LR (R7, R8) | 1kΩ |
RGB termination (R1, R2, R3) | 220Ω |
RGB inline resistors (R4, R5, R6) | 1.2kΩ |
Diode (R9) | 1N4148 |
Blanking Resistor (R11) | shorted |
R919 8.2kΩ replacement | 6.8kΩ |
Add a didoe between OSD and R919 | 1N4148 |
STEP 5: Attach the female SCART connector to TV
Creating a SCART cutout and mounting it is an art. I have a dedicated section for it.
How to create and mount a SCART female plug?
