Sony (BA-4C) KV-20FV10 CRT RGB mod

The Sony KV-20FV10 is a 20" flat-screen CRT television released in 1999, notable as one of Sony's first smaller flat Trinitron models. It is highly regarded for its crisp picture, S-Video support, and ability to be modified for RGB, though it is prone to common flat-CRT geometry issues.

Caution

You can die doing this! So read carefully! CRT TV is not a toy. Do not open a CRT TV. If you don't have any prior knowledge about handling high voltage devices, this guide is not for you. CRT TV contains high enough voltage (20,000+ V) and current to be deadly, even when it is turned off.

Performing the mod

You can see pictures below with caption on how the RGB mux board and cables were mounted.

This mod uses the RGB mux board. This is optional, but will make your mod easier and stable. You can also create the circuit presented in the schematics above without the board. Please also checkout the mux calculatoropen in new window to play with your own values.

Audio and ground wires. Sync was later moved to a different spot, as we were not utilizing the luma input directly with the micro mux board. If you are using 1.4 or above mux boards, you can connect sync here, which will be a more accurate location to inject sync.
